Biography

Kim Pearl works with traditional Korean ink and paint on paper and Jangji (a thick type of traditional Korean paper), using not only brushes but also hands, wire, wooden chopsticks, and various other tools to develop a distinctive style—creating textures and a sense of vitality that no other artist can replicate. By reinterpreting traditional Korean painting with a contemporary sensibility, she freely incorporates a mix of acrylic, oil pastels, and other pigments to create cheerful, fairy tale-like artworks.

As a mother of two daughters, she draws inspiration from both the joys and challenges of raising children while pursuing her artistic path. Her work reflects the dual journey of motherhood and artistry, capturing the profound emotions that come with balancing these roles.

Influenced by the pure and heartfelt words of her child, many of her artworks offer a glimpse into the perspective of children looking at their parents or parents looking at their children—the comfort they receive and the deep empathy it evokes. Her art resonates with warmth and emotional depth, expressing both the conflicts and fulfillment of parenthood. Through her work, Kim Pearl conveys the message that parents, too, grow alongside their children.

Today, she is gaining significant recognition and is loved by many collectors in Korea, solidifying her place in the contemporary art scene.
