Kim Seongyun’s works are imbued with quiet reflections on life, nature, and the subtle beauty of daily moments. He captures the warmth of moonlight falling on a forest or a home, and the gentle scattering of golden dust that drifts like snowflakes cradling the stars. These images evoke a sense of peace and contemplation, inviting viewers to pause and breathe amid life’s busyness.
“I have always been drawn to the forest. Walking slowly along mountain trails, barefoot on earthen paths, I notice the countless shapes and textures of leaves, the way light filters through the trees, and the quiet life all around me. Each leaf is unique, and each tree together forms a forest. Layering these leaves in my work allows me to create a space for reflection—a place where one can rest, think, and simply be. I carefully gather real leaves from nature, thoughtfully selecting those with beautiful shapes, then apply paint to them and press them onto the canvas, using them as natural stamps, where each leaf becomes a tree within the forest I create
People often make wishes at the start of a new year, or when longing for something—watching the first sunrise, lighting a candle, or gazing at the moon. I, too, climb the mountains at sunrise to wish for the health and happiness of my family. I hope that, under the moonlight and amidst nature, viewers can find their own moments of contemplation and rest.
